Castration: n. the condition of removing the testicles of a male animal or a man 阉割

sickle: n. a tool with a blade in the shape of a hook 镰刀

ambush: n. a sudden attack on sb by people who have been hiding 埋伏,伏击

homicide: n. the killing of a human being by another person 杀亲

unfilial: adj. not showing the conventionally expected behavior of a son or daughter 不孝的

Ash trees (the Meliae):  梣树,桉树,墨利亚女神

Prophecy: n. a statement that something will happen in the future 预言

Dethrone: v. to remove a king or queen from power 废黜,罢免

Excerpt: n. a short piece taken from a book, poem, piece of music etc. 摘录,节选

magnitude: n. relative importance or significance  强度,量级,大小

onslaught: n. a large violent attack by an army  攻击,猛攻

irresistible: adj. 无法抗拒的,不可阻挡的

Typhon (Typhoeus): n. a monster 提丰,希腊神话中的百头巨怪

Interpretation: n. the way in which someone explains or understands sth 解释,说明

Allegory: n. a story in which the events and characters represent ideas or teach a moral lesson 寓言

Cosmological: adj. about the origin and nature of the universe 宇宙论的

Patriarchy: n. a social system in which men have all the power 父系社会

Matriarchy: n. a social system in which women have all the power 母系社会

Motif: n. an idea that is regularly repeated in works 主旨,主题

Primitive: adj. belonging to a very simple society with no industry  原始的,远古的

Suppress: v. to stop people from opposing the government by using force 压制,镇压

Abundant: adj. something that is abundant or is available in large quantities  丰富的
