virtues and vices: ph. 善与恶

impulsive: adj. proceeding from natural feeling or impulse without external stimulus 冲动的,受感情驱使的

hot-tempered: adj. quickly aroused to anger 暴躁的,性急的

quick-tempered: adj. quickly aroused to anger 易怒的

slight: v. to pay no attention to, disrespect 轻视,忽略

indignant: adj. angered at something unjust or wrong 愤愤不平的;义愤的

sanguine: adj. confidently optimistic and cheerful 乐观的;热血的

disposition: n. your usual mood 性情,性格

exalted: adj. of high moral or intellectual value; elevated in nature or style 高尚的

malicious: adj. having the nature of or resulting from malice 恶意的

insolence: n. the trait of being rude and impertinent 傲慢,傲慢无礼

cynical: adj. believing the worst of human nature and motives愤世嫉俗的

distrustful: adj. having or showing distrust 怀疑的,不信任的

suspicious of: ph. 起疑,怀疑

small-minded: adj. contemptibly narrow in outlook 心胸狭窄的

cowardly: adj. lacking courage; ignobly timid and faint-hearted 怯懦的,懦弱的

chilly: adj. very hot and finely tapering pepper of special pungency 冷漠的

utility: n. the quality of being of practical use 效用

love of gain: ph .利欲

the Mean: ph. (亚里士多德的)中庸之道

deficiency: n. lack of an adequate quantity or number 缺乏,不足

intemperate: adj. excessive in behavior 放纵的,无节制的

temperate: adj. not extreme in behavior 适度的,有节制的

moderation: n. the trait of avoiding excesses 适度,节制

fitness: n. the condition of being suitable 适当,适合性

ancestral: adj. of or belonging to or inherited from an ancestor 祖先的

contemptuous: adj. expressing extreme contempt  轻蔑的

degenerate: v. grow worse 退化,恶化

insolent: adj. marked by casual disrespect 无礼的,傲慢的

arrogant: adj.having or showing feelings of unwarranted importance out of overbearing pride自大的,傲慢的

luxurious: adj. displaying luxury and furnishing gratification to the senses豪华的,奢侈的

ostentatious: adj. of a display that is tawdry or vulgar 浮华的,铺张的

vulgar: adj. lacking refinement or cultivation or taste 粗俗的,庸俗的

self-indulgence:n. excess in action and immoderate indulgence of bodily appetites, especially in passion or indulgence 放纵,自我放纵
