A Strategic Cooperation Reached Between the Digital Currency Research Institute of the People’s Bank of China and Rural Credit Bank Fund Clearing Center
According to E-commerce Daily, the Digital Currency Research Institute of the People’s Bank of China (hereinafter referred to as the “Research Institute”) and the Rural Credit Bank Funds Clearing Center signed a strategic cooperation agreement on the morning of October 20 and carried out cooperation on the application of digital currency and electronic payment.
It is reported that the Rural Credit Bank, as one of the important financial infrastructures in rural areas in China, will provide a new type of aggregated networking service for digital currency interconnection platforms such as Rural Credit Cooperatives, Rural Commercial Banks, Village Banks and other small and medium banking financial institutions in order to promote the R&D and pilot projects of digital currency and electronic payment in rural areas.
It is worth mentioning that the Research Institute also reached a strategic cooperation with City Commercial Banks Clearing Co., Ltd. last month, which has the same direction with the cooperation between the Research Institute and the Rural Credit Bank.
E-commerce Daily learned that the Research Institute is steadily advancing the R&D and pilot projects of digital currency and electronic payment. It began to develop digital currency in 2014. As of April this year, it had submitted several patent applications for digital currency and related content, which covered the entire process from issuance, circulation to application of digital currency, forming a complete industrial chain.
Fan Yifei, deputy governor of the People's Bank of China, also disclosed at the 9th China Payment and Clearing Forum that the current digital currency has obtained partial results and is undergoing internal closed tests. Shenzhen, one of the pilot areas, gifted digital red envelopes of 10 million yuan in October. As of 24:00 on October 18, 2020, there were 47,573 individuals who successfully received digital red envelopes, and there were 62,788 transactions by digital red envelopes with the transaction amount of 8.764 million yuan.
