Hippocrates, an ancient Greek healer and Western 'father of medicine', left an oath:
(1) I solemnly guarantee that I will dedicate everything to serve humanity. I ’m going to give my teachers respect and affection;
(2) I will practice medicine based on my conscience and dignity; the health of the patient should be my primary concern;
(3) I will respect the secrets entrusted to me; I will do my best to maintain the honor and noble traditions of the medical profession;
(4) My peers should be regarded as my compatriots; I will not allow any consideration of religion, nationality, race, political opinions or status, between my duties and patients;
(5) I will do my best to protect human life from the time of conception; even under threat, I will not use my medical knowledge to violate humanity.
(6) I swear the above covenant solemnly, autonomously and with my personality.
This oath has been circulating for more than two thousand years. In 1948, it was adopted by the World Medical Association in Geneva.
As an animal medicine worker (veterinarian), animal science worker (animal husbandry) or biological science worker, do you think whether a similar vow is needed? What are the responsibilities and obligations? Please list the vows you think the corresponding workers need to follow.
