Dermatovenereology, including dermatology and venereology, is a science of study on the skin and dermatological diseases. Dermatology mainly concerns on the structures and functions of the normal skin and the appendages, as well as the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment and prevention; venereology is a science which study the pathogenic microorganisms, pathogenesis, route of transmission, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.
The research category of Dermatovenereology is divided into clinical basic research and clinical application research. Both categories are closely related and completing each other, and the association of basic research and clinical research promotes the knowledge of the etiopathogenesis and new treatment modalities. There are more than 2,000 named skin diseases. The content of dermatological research is very complicated, and there are phenomena of coexistence of various classification standards. However, there are variant classifications based on the etiology, histopathological changes, anatomical locations, as well as common skin lesions, for example, fungal, viral and bacterial infectious skin diseases and drug eruptions classified by etiology, keratotic skin diseases classified by common histopathological characteristics, hair diseases and nail diseases classified by anatomical parts, Bullous skin disease, erythematous scaly skin disease classified by common characteristics of skin lesions, etc.)
