1. Is the liberal feminist aim feasible? Is it possible to be entirely clear about what it means to be a woman or a man, and to subject one’s femininity or masculinity to willed rejection?

2. Is the liberal feminist view desirable? Are there heavy costs for society (e.g., higher divorce rate) and for the individual (is it psychologically damaging to fight against one’s femininity or masculinity?)

3.    Can we have difference without domination? Instead of fighting for a society where sex differences no longer exist, should we allow for one where roles and activities are filled with different proportions of men and women and yet are equally valued? For example, a society where care-giving professions dominated by women are more valued, both in terms of social status and resources.

4.    Is liberal feminism incompatible with multiculturalism?  Should we tolerate, if not respect, other cultures with patriarchal practices? Does Confucian theorizing about the family necessarily justify patriarchal values and ways of life? Put positively, can Confucianism contribute to the debate on the family and justice (e.g., the family as an educative institution, the family as a political institution, the priority of obligations to loved ones, pro-family利于家庭的 public policies)?
