We have talked about
the additional terms
in the integumentary system
see you in the next part
In this part
we will learn some expressions
related to skin
The first one is
Get Under One’s Skin
If I say
my baby son is beginning
to get under my skin
with his constant screaming
that means
I am terribly irritated
So this expression
to get under one’s skin
means to bother
or irritate someone intensely
But a compelling movie
can also get under
our skin
when we continue to think about it
long
after it’s over
The second expression is Out Of One’s Skin
English people are eager to let you
know exactly
where we stand
in relation to skin
We can jump or leap
out of our skin
when we're scared or excited
We can fly out of it
when we get really angry
and we can play ourselves
out of our skin
if we do a great job at something
The third comes
By the Skin of One’s Teeth
A woman,who was almost hit
by a car when crossing the street
might say, I just made it
by the skin of my teeth
Many people have wondered
about this expression
After all
no one has skin on their teeth
Skin covers us from head to toe
but does not cover our teeth
This expression means just barely
by a narrow margin
or just in time
Here comes the last expression
Skinflint
In this expression
skin has the function of a verb
meaning to remove one’s skin
while flint is a very hard stone
therefore
skinflint means to skin a flint
trying to remove the skin of a hard stone
in the name of profit
So the real meaning of skinflint
is a mean and miserly person
who likes grubbing money
and hates spending money
Up to now
we have learned all the information
needed for the building of the medical words
in the integumentary system
