So after learning all the Singaporean cultural etiquette

it is time to practice

We are now going to have an in-depth tour

in Singapore companies or business enterprises

It is good to know more about greeting manners

appointment culture

business negotiation

working relationships and networking channels

let’s talk about how you should Greet your Singaporean partners

Singaporeans are generally very formal when it comes to introductions

The standard greeting is a firm handshake

but conservative Muslims avoid contact with the opposite sex

so when a man meets a Malay woman

he should first ask her to extend her hand

and when a woman meets a Malay man

she should wait for him to do so

If the other person puts their hand over their heart and bows slightly

do the same in return

Never hug

When meeting the elders or people of the highest status

introduce themselves first

A lot of communication is non-verbal

so pay attention to facial expressions and body language

It’s hard to figure out all the complicated introductions in Singapore

as many cultures come through this way

the best thing to do is to wait and see

what the other person will do

and then follow suit

The same is true of names

Chinese Malays and Indians have different types of names

As for what to call it

it can be confusing

When in doubt

politely ask the person what they like to be called

Making Appointment is part of the culture too

Appointments should be made two weeks in advance

preferably in writing

It is better to send a list of the titles and names of those who will be participating in the meeting/negotiation

but this is not a way to raise your voice to bargain

deliberate process that allows the relationship to develop

show respect to elders and top management

as status and rank are very important

Realize that business decisions are usually made by consensus

because the interests of the group are more important than those of the individual

and keep a good Working relationship

Influenced by the Asian philosophy of building good relationships

before doing business

Singaporeans tend to focus more on personal relationships

Singaporeans are cautious and like to make sure

they are doing business with the right people

Therefore

establish a good and sincere relationship

with Singaporeans to prove your competence and good character

Lastly

let’s talk about the Networking channels in Singapore

Professional business networking is an essential part

of doing business in Singapore

as is building personal relationships with associates

and potential business partners

to socialize in Singapore

You can literally network in Singapore morning

noon, and night every workday

 Some of the best opportunities to network

Marketing agencies of all kinds are often putting on events

with fascinating speakers to allow you to meet other agency people

Clients and just people interested in networking

and hearing the speakers

Often it is held at the venue of the agency

so that you get immersed in their world too

for people who graduated in their home country or in Singapore
