“展示”手法的妙用
这一节
我们将重点剖析鲁迅小说
《示众》叙述之妙
鲁迅的小说《示众》
初体验似乎有些单薄和浅白
小说几乎没有情节
更没有主角
主题单一 结构单调 手法简单
所描写的也不过是“几乎无事的悲剧”
甚至连悲剧都算不上
只能算是“几乎无事”的日常生活
但实际上呢
《示众》却是一篇重要且独特的小说
据说 鲁迅自认为《示众》
是其《彷徨》文集中艺术最完整的一篇
北大教授 著名鲁迅研究专家钱理群先生
对《示众》评价极高
他认为
《示众》是鲁迅对人生世界的客观把握
与对心灵世界的主观体验二者的一种契合
我们甚至可以把《呐喊》《彷徨》
与《故事新编》中的许多小说都看作是
《示众》的生发与展开
他还不止一次地说
鲁迅有两篇小说是代表
20世纪中国短篇小说最高水平的
其一就是《示众》
《示众》艺术之独特
正是因其对展示手段的精妙使用
那么
何为“展示”呢
我们都知道
小说表现的话语一般都在
讲述与展示之间交替使用着
“讲述”是以叙事者作为中介的再现
讲述者控制着故事
讲述 概括 并加以评论
而 “展示”则属于通过对
状态 事件的细节性 场景性的表现
并以最为有限的叙述者介入为特征的叙事类型
在小说叙事手段中
“展示”被认为是客观的 非人格化的或戏剧式的
是事件和对话的直接再现
故事被不加评价地表现出来
叙述者从中消失
留下读者在没有叙述者明确评价来指导的情况下
从他自己的所见所闻中独自去得出结论来
在中国现代文学史上
在小说中最先成功而娴熟地使用展示手法的
正是鲁迅
而最突出的作品就是其《示众》
展示手法的使用
使《示众》呈现出三个比较明显的艺术特征
其一
在人物形象设置上
舍弃了小说的传统写法
《示众》没有主人公
没有前后发展的故事情节
鲁迅只是写了一群人
一个日常生活的横切面
《示众》中一共出现了18个人物
在这些人物中
我们找不到一个主要人物
鲁迅不曾过多着墨刻意描写一个中心人物
而是平等对待每一个人物
在《示众》中
鲁迅着意描写的是所有人物的共同表征
关注的是全体人物的“群像”和“共性”
而不青睐于精心刻画某一个人物
他们的面目都是模糊不清的
同时
小说中也几乎没有什么故事
只是描写了一群人围观犯人这样一个场景
但是 就在这个平淡场景中
这些人显露出了他们的共同习性 “看”
其二
在叙事形式上
和传统小说按时间来叙事不同
这篇作品大部分是按“人物”来进行叙述的
讲述完一个人物的动作 神态后才换到下一个
每个人之间没有严格的时间顺序
准确地说
《示众》采取了现代小说的空间形式叙事
最大限度地淡化了传统小说中用时间流程
和因果逻辑所编制的情节
整篇小说基本上是不同人物的行为片段
在空间关系上的连缀和并置
在同一时间平台上
集聚了难以计数的人物
就其着墨的18个人物而言
他们有年老年少的大致区别
有高矮胖瘦之类的粗略的形象描写
大多可以分辨出男女性别来
但是无一例外的没有姓名
没有籍贯 没有身份
没有性格刻画
没有喜怒哀乐的情感表达
其三
在叙述情绪调控上
极度的冷静客观
鲁迅的其他小说
常使人感受到压制不住的哀与怒
具有强烈的抒情色彩
而从《示众》中你几乎
看不到鲁迅的主观情绪
对鲁迅这样一个诗人气质强烈
易动怒上火的作家来说
是很不多见的
而不动声色地叙事
正是展示性作品的一个标志
虽然
鲁迅在《示众》中也运用了大量的、
神态 外貌 心理 细节 动作 语言描写
这使《示众》极具画面感和镜头感
但另一方面
《示众》无论就其人物描写
还是事件描述
都抽去了写实作品所要求的
丰富性 具体性
只剩下些元素性 标志性的
形象轮廓与基本动作
鲁迅终其一生都在对令他
深恶痛绝的看客心态进行揭示和批判
目的是引起国民的注意 唤醒民众
《示众》是他小说中唯一一篇
完整地描写看客心态的小说
是他对看客世界进行的一次冷静的展示
因为“展示”手法的妙用
这展示令人更加印象深刻
