You may receive two tickets after purchasing, one is “乗車券(じょうしゃけん)” which is a “basic fare ticket” that records your travel distance, and the other one is “特急券(とっきゅうけん)” which is an “express fare ticket” that records the use of traveling on a limited express train in the travel distance. In the previous video about ticket purchasing, we learned that there are two ways to choose your departure station. One is that you can only go from one Shinkansen station to another Shinkansen station. In this case, the name of the departure station on the “basic fare ticket” is the same as the one on the “express fare ticket”. However, if you get off at a Shinkansen station and continue to transfer to the local train, the name of the departure station on the “basic fare ticket” will be different from the one on the “express fare ticket”. For example, the “basic fare ticket” shown in this picture shows the distance travelled from “王子 Station” to “小田原Station” while the “express fare ticket” shows the distance travelled from “东京 Station” to “小田原 Station”. This shows that a local train is taken from “王子 Station” to “东京 Station” and Shinkansen is taken in transferring from “东京Station” to “小田原 Station”. It should be noted that both tickets must be inserted into the ticket gate at the same time when Shinkansen enters the station. Also, if you get off the Shinkansen station and transfer to a local train, the “express fare ticket” will be recycled once you inserted the two tickets, and only by then “乗車券(じょうしゃけん)” will pop up and available for you to use.
