In this lesson, we talked about the counting method of Numbers, and different pronunciations of Numbers “800”, “600” and “300”. In addition, the pronunciation for a 4-digit number is changed from “sen” to “zen” if the thousandth is a multiple of 3. For example, Number “3000” should be pronounced as “さんぜん”. Besides, there are two pronunciations of Number “9”, which are “きゅう” and “く”. Both are interchangeable, but sometimes they should be used separately. For example, Number "9" in its tenth, hundredth and thousandth should be pronounced as “きゅう” which “90 = きゅうじゅう”, “900 =きゅうひゃく”. Meanwhile, Number “9” should be pronounced as “く” when referring to time, hence 9 a.m. or 9 p.m. will be “くじ”.
Besides, for some words in Japanese, we wrote the phonetic notation of the Kanji (Chinese character) in a bracket. Therefore, please note that there might be Kana (Japanese character) in front of Kanji. For example, the word “お子様(こさま)セット”, “子様” is pronounced as “こさま”, while the pronunciation of this phrase is “おこさませっと”.
