In the previous discussion, some students mentioned about Japanese snacks. The concept of “snacks” in China is not available in Japan. However, I have mentioned that there are many cheap ramen restaurants or small restaurants in Japan in the previous lesson. These restaurants are also very popular, especially the ramen restaurant. Most of these restaurants have no waiters, but only chefs. Ticket machines like Figure 1 or Figure 2 will be installed in the restaurants. The buttons on the top of the machine show different recipes and the corresponding price. Generally, the choices are very limited. Put in coins, choose the meal you want, and a voucher will pop up at the ticket gate below (Figure 3). Take this coupon to the counter and give it to the chef, who will call the number when the food is done.
However, please note that in principle, Japanese do not stand and eat. If you noted that there are no chairs in the restaurant, this kind of restaurant is usually for men or people with low income. Ladies are advised not to go in.
