Summary(강의 마무리)
The concept of Hyo is an obligation to take care of one’s parents. And the concept of ‘Do’ suggests it is a must. It is not a choice but you must take care of your parents regardless whether you like it or not. Since your parents took care of you, and did everything that you wanted, indulged and devoted to you, as a child, you have an obligation to obey your parents. The second is attending. The children must take care of every need of their parents. Similarly, as a mother takes care of every need of the child, the child must also do the same. You are taken care of, and when you are old, you have to do the same by taking care of your parents by listening to them and supporting when they are old until they pass away. This is the emphasis of relationship in Korea and in Confucian society.
Next Week(다음 강의 안내)
What we did is conducted empirical studies. In Korean culture, filial piety is a core value that defines parent-child relationship. Although filial piety is widely discussed in life, media and society, rigorous scientific investigation has not been available. We conducted the study with a rural sample.
