Key points 8-3 Regulation of gene expression at Translational level

 

In this section, we are involved in some "advanced" and "complex" fields. The regulation of eukaryotic gene expression, especially the regulation of post transcriptional and translational level, is a hot topic in modern life science research. But you don't have to worry too much. The reason why we still arrange this section is that it's just skimming the water to let you know a little bit about this hot area. In the course, we just mentioned a little about miRNA and siRNA. In fact, people have found that there are many hundreds or even thousands of long-chain non coding RNAs in addition to the small RNAs. They also play an important role in the regulation of gene expression and protein function. Still a lot are waiting for us to discover and explore.

Moreover, we also introduce the initiation process of eukaryotic translation. Please refer to the assembly process of the prokaryotic translation initiation complex to see the difference between the eukaryotic translation initiation processes. We will also just introduce a basic example about the regulation of translation initiation, and the more complicated details are left for your exploration. In all, our task in this lecture is, to learn the basic concepts about the regulation of gene expression in eukaryotes, to facilitate your future study.

ü  Generation and function of small regulatory RNAs: miRNA and siRNA
