It is a 2005 British film based on
an autobiography of the same title
written by English author Gerald Durrell
It tells the story of the Durrell family as
they spent five years on the Greek island of Corfu
between 1935 and 1939
The family live in a series of villas
and spend their life pursuing their varying interests
such as cooking, writing, and sailing
Gerald Durrell’s book, published in 1956
describes the life of the Durrell family on the island
and contains rich discussions of the animals of the island
