主要涉及的是劝说型演讲的组织形式
Good organization is essential for persuasive speeches
It puts together the speaker's ideas in a coherent and clear way
so that the audience can
follow him without difficulty
In addition it makes the speaker's argument
convincing and smooth
One way to organize the body to a persuasive speech
is a “problem-solution” order
in which the speaker states a problem
and then proposes a solution
The following is an example of how a speech
is organized in the “problem-cause-solution” pattern
In the above example
the body part of the speech gives in detail the speaker;s main points
including the discussion of the problem itself
the causes of the problem, and then a feasible solution
Now you are supposed to give a five-minute speech
to persuade your audience that age discrimination
should be banned at work
Use the problem(cause) solution
order to organize the speech
The following outline is for your reference
Now let's have a student to give us an example
Weeks ago i watched a news report on TV about
a 50-year-old nurse who sued her employer for age discrimination
the hospital she worked for fired her
saying that a younger nurse would fit her position better
Bias against workers like this is not rare in our society
Instead it is common
and even so common that many people don't realize it's wrong
To make this point clear
why formulating laws
and changing our current retirement policy
are feasible measures to solve the problem
First let's look at the problem of age discrimination at work in detail
There are various types of age-related bias in employment
In some cases people may be excluded from certain positions
because they are considered too old
For example airline companies prefer to hire young women
to work as flight attendants
In some other cases
people may lose employment opportunities just
because they are considered too young
For instance some companies set an age
requirement for senior positions
All these cases show that age discrimination
in employment is a prevalent problem
that may affect any group of people in any field
Now that we have been seen how common age discrimination
is in the workplace let me share with you the solution
I will focus on tow measures
which are law enforcement and policy revision
My first proposal is that our government
should formulate laws to create an age-equal labor market
Employers should be banned from specifying
any type of age requirement in their recruitment ads
In addition any decisions concerning salary and duty assignment
must be made on the basis of
a person's qualifications rather than age
Employers will be forced to adopt an age-equal policy
in hiring and managing their workers
and employees will be equipped with legal tools
to protect their rights
The second measure I'd like to propose is to abolish
the current policy of mandatory retirement
and replace it with a policy of voluntary retirement
What we have now in China is that people have to
retire at a certain age
But what i am saying is that people should be able to
decide when to retire at their own will rather than be told to retire
In short age discrimination at work should be entirely eliminated
We can accomplish this with a combination of legal measures
and a voluntary retirement policy
Age equality in employment concerns all of us
With the right efforts
I believe we can create a fair society for all citizens
regardless of how old or how young we are
