Discussion and Writing课程教案、知识点、字幕

Hello everyone

welcome to the lecture of unit 8 part 6

In this class we will learn

how to use a personal experience

to prove/disprove a saying

在写议论文的时候

当论点鲜明地提出以后

我们必须使用充分的论据来证明论点

今天 我们的saying就相当于论点

亲身经验就是论据

而且是一个很好的论据

因为它真实可靠所以很有说服力

现在让我们通过练习来学习

如何使用亲身经验来证实或反驳一句谚语

First let’s read the passage on P163 on our textbooks

please focus on the title and guess

what happens in the story

Let’s try to analyze how the writer uses his personal experience

to prove the saying

If at first you don’t succeed try try again

and answer the questions below

After reading the passage carefully

have you got your answers

Let’s look at them one by one

Question 1

from the 1st paragraph we can find

that the saying is

If at first you don’t succeed…try try again

Question 2 in paragraph 2

the writer gives the time location

and background of the story

Question 3 in paragraphs 3 and 4

the writer describes in detail what happened to him

i.e. his failure to learn how to windsurf

although he tried it many times

Question 4 at the same time

in para 3 and para 4

the writer tells us how he felt by using words

such as stupidly embarrassed and defeated

Question 5 he learned that

if he couldn't succeed in doing something at first

he should give it up rather than

try it again and again in vain

This is stated in Para 5

in vain here means 徒劳 无效

Question 6 Does the ending surprise you

For me partly

When I read the title

I thought the author would prove the saying

by his own experience

I didn’t expect that in fact he wanted to disprove the saying

Question 7 In the last paragraph

he rewrites the saying mentioned in first paragraph

to give a logical ending to his story

Ok everyone after learning how to use

your personal experience to prove a saying

let’s learn more sayings

What are the meaning of these sayings let’s see

in Chinese it means 无风不起浪

the Chinese meaning is 入乡随俗

It means 一朝被蛇咬 十年怕井绳

It means 留得青山在 不怕没柴烧 in Chinese

It is 不入虎穴 焉得虎子

It means 不要杞人忧天

车到山前必有路

Now it is your turn to practice

Choose one saying from Task Two

Share an experience in your life

that proves or disapproves the saying

Write it in an essay and submit it on Pigai Website

Your essay should be in a coherent way

and the verb tenses should be correct.

The writing task number is 1453802 in Ivy’s MOOC class

I’m looking forward to your creative ideas

You can use the following questions

to help organize your thoughts

Now let’s invite Steven present his idea

and make an example for us

Good job Steven

I am impressed by your determination and diligence

We should always remember that

Nothing ventured, nothing gained

You have to take a risk or work

really hard to achieve something

同学们今天我们学习了一些常见的谚语

尝试了如何利用亲身经验来支撑论点

在写作的时候

请大家注意以下几点

你掌握了吗

Thanks for watching

See you next time
