Four significant western festivals

will be introduced from this time.

Let’s start form Christmas.

从本次课开始我向大家介绍

四个重要的西方传统节日

我们先从圣诞节说起

Christmas is one of the most

beautiful holidays of all time.

It is the day when God's son

was born on earth. Hence, this day

is sacred for all Christians around the world.

The Christmas season gives rise to

a number of Christmas traditions

that come along.

Here are a few of them that are

celebrated with zest and enthusiasm

worldwide for centuries.

圣诞节一直是个美好的节日

这是上帝之子诞生的日子

因此对世界各地的基督徒来说

这一天是非常神圣的

圣诞季节自然少不了各种圣诞传统

下面这些传统

是几个世纪以来世界各地的人们

一直热闹欢庆的习俗

No.1 Preparation of the Christmas cake

烘烤圣诞蛋糕

This was an English tradition

which started centuries ago.

On Christmas Eve, plum porridge

was served to the people.

As years passed, various other things

like dry fruits, honey and spices were used.

Soon this porridge got replaced

with the Christmas cake.

Christmas cakes are made of eggs,

butter, confections, fruits, etc.

Today a Christmas cake is

an integral part of a Christmas menu.

这项英式传统早在

几个世纪以前就流传开了

以前人们在平安夜喝梅花粥

随着时间慢慢推移

人们还会享用果脯

蜂蜜及香料食物等

随后圣诞蛋糕便代替

梅花粥出现了

圣诞蛋糕由鸡蛋 黄油

甜点 水果等烘制而成

现如今 圣诞蛋糕已成为

圣诞菜谱不可或缺的一部分

No.2 Sending gifts to loved ones

给亲友送礼物

This tradition comes from the story

of the three wise men who got gifts

for baby Jesus on Christmas.

Every Christmas, gifts are exchanged

among loved ones, especially children.

Presents are bought and wrapped, 

and traditionally placed under 

the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve.

The story of Santa Claus also

comes from this tradition.

这个传统源自一个传说

三位智者在圣诞节

给婴儿耶稣送出了礼物

每年圣诞节

亲朋好友尤其是孩子们

都会互赠礼物

圣诞老人的故事也源自这个传统

No.3Decorating the Christmas tree

装扮圣诞树

This refers to the tradition of decorating

a pine tree using lights, tinsels, garlands,

ornaments, candy canes, etc.

Today, a Christmas tree is an indispensable

part of Christmas celebration.

这个传统指的是用彩灯 金箔 花环

饰品 糖果条等装扮松树

现如今 圣诞树也是

欢庆节日不可或缺的一部分

No.4 Singing Christmas carols

唱圣诞颂歌

It refers to the age-old custom of

enchanting a number of traditional

Christmas songs during the Christmas season.

It adds to the joy and fun to the atmosphere.

这是一个古老的习俗

圣诞期间总是回荡着

一首又一首圣诞传统歌曲

歌曲给人们带来欢乐

也增添了节日的气氛

No.5 Distributing Christmas candies

分发圣诞糖果

This is one of the most wonderful traditions of all.

Christmas candies are distributed to

neighbors during the Yuletide season.

On the day of Christmas, all misunderstandings

and grudges are forgotten and the community

comes together to celebrate the birth of Christ.

这是所有传统中最有趣的一个

圣诞季人们向邻居们

分发圣诞糖果

圣诞节那天

所有误会与仇恨统统化解

邻里之间团结一致

共同庆祝耶稣的诞生

The excitement begins for children 

on Christmas Eve, when they hang up their 

stockings an old sock or, more ambitiously, 

pillow cases around the fireplace or 

at the foot of the bed for Father Christmas 

to fill with presents. 

The English Father Christmas or Santa Claus 

is first recorded in his traditional red 

and white outfit in a woodcut of 1653, 

but the story of Santa arriving 

in his reindeer-drawn sleigh and descending 

down the chimney to fill children’s stockings 

with presents derives from the USA.

圣诞节最兴奋的要属孩子了

他们在壁炉边或者床角挂起袜子

一只旧袜子 或者贪心点 一个枕头

来装圣诞老人的礼物

英国的圣诞老人或者叫Santa Claus

最先在1653年被木刻下来

穿着传统的红白服饰

但是关于圣诞老人坐驯鹿拉的雪撬来

并且下到烟囱里给孩子送礼物的故事

却是来源于美国的

Practically everyone sits down to 

a Christmas dinner in the early afternoon of 

Christmas Day, traditionally roast turkey, 

but some families prefer goose or roast beef. 

The turkey is followed by the Christmas pudding, 

brought to the table flaming hot. 

Brandy is poured over the pudding, then lit. 

After dinner, everyone relaxes by going for a walk, 

playing games, enjoying their presents 

or watching television.

实际上 人人都在圣诞节那天下午

早早地坐下吃圣诞晚餐

烤火鸡是传统食物

但有些家庭更喜欢鹅或者烤牛肉

在圣诞布丁之后上的菜

就是热气腾腾的火鸡

白兰地斟在布丁上 然后点燃

晚饭后

所有人都去散散步放松一下

玩玩游戏 赏玩他们的礼物

或者看看电视

These traditions have been carried out for decades,

yet they are celebrated with more and

more exuberance each year.

Next I’d like to introduce

another western festival to you.

Easter Day 复活节

Easter Day is a Sunday between

March 22 and April 25

The meanings of many different customs

observed during Easter Sunday have been

buried with time.

Their origins lie in pre-Christian religions

and Christianity. All in some way or another

are a "salute to spring," marking re-birth.

The white Easter lily has come to

capture the glory of the holiday.

每年 在三月二十二日至

四月二十五日之间的

一个星期天就是复活节

在复活节 许多不同习俗的含义

都随着时间而发生变化

复活节起源于前基督教和基督教

在某种程度上表示向春天致敬

On Easter Sunday children wake up

to find that the Easter Bunny

has left them baskets of candy.

He has also hidden the eggs that

they decorated earlier that week.

Children hunt for the eggs

all around the house.

Neighborhoods and organizations

hold Easter egg hunts, and the child

who finds the most eggs wins a prize.

复活节孩子们醒来发现

复活节兔子给他们

留下了一篮子糖果

他还把他们那周早些时候

装饰的鸡蛋藏起来了

孩子们在家里到处寻找鸡蛋

The Easter Bunny is a rabbit-spirit.

Long ago, he was called the" Easter Hare." Hares

and rabbits have frequent multiple births

so they became a symbol of fertility.

The custom of an Easter egg hunt began

because children believed that

hares laid eggs in the grass.

复活节兔子是兔子精灵

很久以前

他被称为复活节野兔

野兔和兔子具有很强的生育能力

所以它们成为生育能力的象征

寻找复活节彩蛋的习俗

起源于孩子们相信野兔

会在草地上下蛋

The star of Easter—painted, dyed, gilded

in silver and gold, blown empty and

hung on trees--is the egg.

Legends abound about this symbol of life.

Around the world they are brought to church,

given as gifts, hidden for the benefit of children

and even rolled on the White House lawn.
