6.1.Character design 4: Elegant Dan characters课程教案、知识点、字幕

OK, guys. Here is a sketch in my hand. There are two female roles.

According to our knowledge, the left one is a female role who is proficient in swordplay, and the right one is the old female role

It can be seen that,

through learning,

the features of the head part,

hair accessories and facial characteristics of a female role are all presented through the head part.

Female roles are significant in operas.

Mei Lanfang, a well-known master of Beijing Opera, is a famous actress of female roles,

and the Druken Concubine and Heavenly Maids Scatter Blossoms are both illustrious clips of Beijing Opera.

Female roles are of various types,

for example,

the Lao Dan (old female role),

Hua Dan (female role of the coquettish type),

Dao Ma Dan (female role proficient in swordplay),

Xiao Dan (young female role) and Qing Yi (decent middle-aged female role).

As we can see, many of these roles have a very large proportion of shows and plays.

Look at this figure. It is a Shaanxi puppet style.

We can tell the female roles from the whole facial features and body proportion,

and it is a delicate role.

This is what we said,

the female role is actually the female character in a shadow play based on the design.

We just saw several female roles. Here, it is a female role with a whole figure and proficient in fights.

You also may call it Dao Ma Dan.

Dao Ma Dan is the female role with armament.

This kind of figure is similar in the head and body parts to the other female figures we just saw.

They are different from male roles.

If it is a martial male role,

all accessories on the role are slimmer than those on female roles,

with finer patterns as well.

Moreover, they are different in proportion.

This is a difference between the male and female roles proficient in swordplay.

That's one of the traditional designs of female roles in shadow plays.

Now, I'm going to introduce a shadow play created by students, called Peony Pavilion.

As you can see, there is a pavilion and a flower in the background of this shadow play.

The whole scene is what we call the layout in Peony Pavilion.

Let's check out the other roles in this scene.

It has two female roles,

which are very outstanding in the whole play.

Let's have a look:

Of these two characters,

one is the courtesan,

an important role in the play,

and the other one is Du Liniang.

We can see that the entire figure of the courtesan is designed with artistic effects.

It's not in the same proportion as that of the traditional female role.

The waist is a little higher,

and the design of the skirt hemline is quite delicate with exaggerated colors.

The facial features are different from those of the northern and western shadow puppets that we just saw.

It is expressed and featured by free inspiration.

When designing female roles,

we try to make innovations in the figure and style.

This one is Du Liniang.

From these two figures,

they are of different ages.

As Du Liniang is relatively young,

her facial expression and colors are exaggerated,

and there is the peony pattern on the body part we've mentioned,

which brings out the theme of the shadow play.

These are the design effects of these two female roles.

What we just saw is the design of two female roles in this play.

Actually, there is a male role in the play:

Liu Sheng.

Let's see the matching of female and male roles.

We can see that the two characters are similar in age and look like a couple.

We can tell in the design.

Peony Pavilion is a play depicting the love of man and ghost.

In such play,

how do we present the "love" in the dream?

We can see that the figure of Liu Sheng was designed with elegance,

and the ribbons of the clothes were exaggerated.

That is to present an atmosphere of characters in different environments, namely, the human dream and the hell.

What we said is the effect of their first meeting in the dream.

Therefore, we emphasized in colors and make hair and headwears more flowing during the design.

This is to coordinate the male role and the female role.

We can see that the two figures,

the male and female roles,

are quite a match.

Meanwhile, the matching of the male role,

Liusheng and Du Linniang successfully creates the romantic atmosphere of a love story and highlights their character traits.

Two figures are well-matched and elegant and beautiful in colors and styles,

making them more expressive in the play.
