In the previous study on the history and styles of shadow play,
we have learned some style patterns of those roles,
and many of them were made through traditional style techniques.
In the past, due to the limitations of time and conditions,
the style of roles was made more to meet the requirements of flow performance.
In many shadow play troupes,
the shadow plays are more performed in remote mountainous areas,
so some troupes cast the stereotyped style design for puppet figures,
which better meets the requirements of flow performance.
That is to say,
when designing the shadow puppets,
we should take into account the personality and features of roles.
For example, in some places, there is a small number of shadow puppeteers.
When roles are elected,
they are designed in a general way and matched the head and body to create the roles of the whole play.
So now, we have to design the roles with features according to different plots,
and shape the roles with their own personalities.
Here, I'd like to introduce two handsome young guys who are the yamen runners of two counties.
I think that they are pretty handsome.
Let's have a look.
As we can see from these two figures,
their body proportions and clothing are similar.
The only difference is that the facial expressions of the two persons are different.
One is happy and the other is not.
In this shadow play,
the magistrate of a county is honest and clean who not only donated money and supplies,
but also secretly sold his wife's jewelry to relieve the people stricken by disasters.
Yamen runners also donated supplies from home,
and they were out of food for a long time,
so everyone wears a sad look,
which is a vivid example of character building.
