Hello, everyone.
Now, let's talk about a role in the Chinese shadow play.
Next, we will particularly introduce the role of clown.
This role is special because we need not to design it according to certain patterns in practice.
We can be bold as we can in creating this role.
Let me explain it with an example.
Here is a figure of clown.
And you can see that there are many stripes on the face of this role.
In the design of this figure,
we did not follow the rules to create the other roles we learned before.
Instead, we adopted the method of exaggeration to make this role funny and humorous.
So, that's where this role is special.
In the shadow plays, there are some figures of clown that are exquisitely created.
Plus the characteristic dubbing during the performance,
the humorous effect of the whole show can be further elevated.
Next, I will introduce a recreated shadow play,
called Legend of Zhen Huan.
There is an interesting character in this play,
named Coffee.
Now, look at this,
a figure of a concubine.
Coffee is ugly-looking concubine with spoofing behaviors.
She is a rather personalized role created by the students after referring to the dubbing and performance in a number of skits.
As we can see,
the mouth and eyes of this figure are particularly emphasized,
including her exposed teeth, thick lips, sharp nose, small eyes and dark-skinned faces,
which perfectly match with her title "Coffee".
The image of a shew, featuring exposed teeth and large nostrils,
is quite fit in the plot of a comic play.
And another comedic role,
namely clown,
in this play is a servant girl.
This girl is designed as a rude role.
To achieve the comic effect,
she appears in the skit in the appearance of a man.
And we adopted pink-white and pink for this role in design.
Thus, sharp contrast between the dark brown and pink forms on the stage.
With these facial features,
this girl just looks a large carp,
creating excellent humorous effect.
And that is how the role contrast forms in a comedic shadow play.
Two clowns - one is white while the other is dark,
one is fat while the other is thin,
fully explain the rules for role design,
which should be based on what the plot demands.
