1.The origin and basic source of Banxia
Banxia is a low small herb which has the blades cracked into 3 pieces. The lobes are usually oval or lanceolate. The tube of the spathe is long and narrow with its green eave and the blue purplish edge. The berries are usually ovoid,yellowish and green.
There is a bud at the base of the petiole of Banxia, which would germinate and multiply after its maturity.
2.The origin and basic source of Zhangyebanxia
The leaves of Zhangye Banxia usually crack into the shape of a bird's foot, with 6 to 11 lanceolate lobes. The spathe is pale green, tubular oblong, with long lanceolate and acute eaves. The berries are ovoid, green to yellow-white and small. It's tuber is subspherical and surrounded by a number of small bulbs, which are the main identification characteristics of this medicinal material.
3.The origin and basic source of Tiannanxing
Tiannanxing has only one leaf, which usually cracks into 7 to 23 lanceolate or oval small lobes, arranging radially like an umbrella. The spathe is green and it spreads from the top,with white or mauve stripes on the back. The inflorescence axial is in rod shape,while the berries are in bright red color.
Dongbei Tiannanxing's feature is that its leaf would crack into 3 to 5 obovate or broadly ovate lobes. And the inflorescence apical appendages are club-shaped.
As for Yiye Tiannanxing, its leaf would crack into the shape of a bird's foot, with 11 to 19 lanceolate or narrowly oblong lobes.And the inflorescence apical appendage is like a rat tail.
