1.Feature of Roucongrong’s medical effects
The feature of Roucongrong’s medical effects is warm instead of hot, nourishing in considerable range, warm instead of dry, and smooth instead of draining. It's relatively gentle and that's why it's called "congrong".
Roucongrong is mainly used for the treatment of kidney essence deficit. Roucongrong also has the role of moistening intestines to relieve constipation.
Because the action is relatively mild, it is very good to Yang deficiency or menses blood loss and concurrently bowel dry constipation symptom.
2. Commodity specifications
Roucongrong is derived from the fleshy stem with scaly leaves of Orobanchaceae Vent plants Roucongrong or Guanhua Roucongrong. Its commodity specifications
are consisted of Tiandayun and Yandayun.
The ones harvested in spring are usually half buried in sand and dried under the sun are called as Tiandayun. While Yandayun are processed by putting them into salty water.
3.Character identification
As for its shape, Roucongrong is cylindrical,slender, slightly curved. Fleshy scaly leaves are with tan or grayish brown surface, densely imbricate.
It has brown section,light brown dotted vascular bundles, arranged into a wavy ring.
Guanhua Roucongrong has two main characteristics.Firstly, its shape is oblate conical or spindle-shaped.Secondly, the texture is relatively hard and difficult to break.It has granular section, and no wavy ring arrangement.
