Characteristics of Yujin, Ezhu, Jianghuang and Pianjianghuang
Characteristics of Yujin, Ezhu, Jianghuang and Pianjianghuang
Wenyujin has a slightly prolate spindle shape with a length between 3-6 cm and and a diameter between 0.8-1.5 cm. It has a yellow and black surface and irregular wrinkle.The section is smooth, ash black and cutin. Inside the cortex lies a distinct annular texture and an eclipse centre.Guiyujin has a cylindrical or spindle shape or even flat and disparities of size exists as well.It shows a fair plumpness, sallow surface and longitudinal wrinkles. The section is light brown.
Green Yujin herb has a long sturdy eclipse shape with a decent plumpness which is said "full". HuangsiYujin has a spindle shape with a long and thin end. section is flat, light and cutin,apricot or orange in colour, with a tint center in the middle. Guangxi Ezhu features prominent ring-arranged nodes on the surface. Peng Ezhu has a good plumpness, which is said "full". Wen Ezhu is more plumb than Guangxi Ezhu with one blunt end and the other slightly sharp end.
Jianghuang’s main rhizome and root is oval with prominent ring nodes and dotted sunken fibrous root, which is called Chandu Jianghuang in medicine. Lateral roots bents like fingers.One end is blunt, and the other is a section. There are vertical wrinkles and prominent ring nodes on the surface. It is named Changxing(long) Jianghuang in medicine. Without being steamed or boiled, the common specification of Pianjianghuangis usually white and silty thick cuts.
