1. The relationship between Xionghuang and vermilion pill
The relationship between Xionghuang and vermilion pill stems from the Taoist pursuit of the immortal medicine, and Xionghuang is an important raw material for refining immortal medicine. Inspired by Xionghuang's "killing sperm, evil ghosts, evil spirits, and insect poison" in Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica, alchemists of alchemy thought that taking Xionghuang could lighten the body and became an immortal.
So they mixed it into the rice, stirred and kneaded into pills to eat, which was called "Zhenren Meal".The King of the Chinese traditional medicine Sun Simiao once put this kind of "Zhenren Meal" in pots, refined it, obtained needle-like crystals of Xionghuang, and named it "Chixueliuzhu Pill".
In the Sui Dynasty's alchemy book Jiuzhuanliuzhu Shenxianjiudanjing,there is an "Er Xionghuang Method",which is to heat and refine Xionghuang, arsenite, and porphyrite in a huge clay kettle. Finally the arsenic of light colour, like frost and snow, which is mixed with white stalactites. In the history of danyao, Wu Shisan has cast a long shadow. Wu Shisan’s prescription was created by Zhang Zhongjing in the Han Dynasty.
2. Arsenic poisoning results
Various symptoms of chronic poisoning will appear, such as madness, irritability, pain and vomiting, carbuncle sores, and spinal meat festering,etc.These symptoms eventually lead to death.
3. Xionghuang and Cihuang
Xionghuang and Cihuang are a coupled mineral substance and often coexist in a mine.
The rough stone of Xionghuang is bright red or orange red,which is often used as a medicinal material.
Cihuang is mostly lemon yellow and is often used as a pigment.Because the Cihuang itself is yellow, which makes it easier to be corrected with half the effort on the yellow paper. Thus, idiom "Xinkou Cihuang" originates.
