2. Different characteristics of Yujin, Ezhu, Jianghuang and Pianjianghuang

Yujin is cold in nature and bitter in flavour, which is the only herb of cold nature in these 4.

Yujin is attributive to the heart and liver meridian and has properties of activating blood, relieving pain, moving qi and soothing liver, cooling blood and stopping bleeding clearing heart and opening orifice and draining the gallbladder to relieve jaundice.Yujin alone can also be applied to promoting qi flow. Besides, Yujin is an individual medicine to cooling blood and hemostasis.

First, Jianghuang is mainly attributive to the spleen and stomach meridian, specializing in spleen and stomach qi stagnation.

Secondly, since Jianghuang is warm in nature, it does not have the properties of cooling blood and stop bleeding, clearing heat and opening orifice.Thirdly, Jianghuang's activating blood and moving qi perform better than Yujin's,which is called breaking blood stasis and moving qi.

Jianghuang's definition also covers Pianjianghuang's properties, stating that it works on shoulder and arm pain. Actually it is Pianjianghuang's effects.

Modern TCM believes that Pianjianghuang has the efficacy of dredging collaterals and relieving pain, mainly treating shoulder and back pain.

Ezhu enters all meridians of heart, liver, spleen and stomach, which means that it cures all kinds of diseases, including hypochondria distending pain caused by syndrome of liver depression and qi stagnation, fullness and discomfort caused by retention of food and qi stagnation, traumatic injuries in limbs and channels.
