Welcome to our course
Intercultural Business Communication
along the Belt and Road
It's no secret
that the Belt and Road Initiative
aims to strengthen China's connectivity
with the world
It brings about opportunities to communicate
and do business among people
from different cultures
What can be difficult however
is understanding how to communicate effectively
with individuals who speak another language
or rely on different means to reach a common goal
In this course
we are going to lead you through ten business tours
along the Belt and Road
Thailand
Singapore
Malaysia
Kazakhstan
Saudi Arabia
United Arab Emirates
India
Russia
Poland
and South Africa
We design this course
to help college undergraduates
and business professionals achieve the goal
of doing successful cross-cultural business communication
The course is divided into ten chapters
Each chapter consists of five different parts
lead-in
core culture values
intercultural business etiquette
business working practice
and cultural pitfalls
In the lead-in part
we generally give you an overview of the culture
in a certain country
Then we introduce the core cultural values
Understanding the core cultural values
helps you understand people's behaviors
and mindsets in a specific culture
thus making you effective
in cross-cultural business communication
In the business etiquette section
we give you suggestions
on properly communicating with business people
in a certain culture
The primary purpose
is to help you avoid possible misunderstandings
In the business working practice part
we preset the scene in certain companies
to explain the characteristics
of the organizational structure in enterprises
and institutions
and the ways to maintain interpersonal relationships
At the end of each unit
we’ve designed a case analysis
to explain
how to avoid cultural pitfalls
in business communication
What we primarily focus on
in the course is the cross-cultural business knowledge
of the countries along the Belt and Road
We aim at offering the knowledge
to college undergraduates
and business professionals
sharping their business communication skills
and improving their cross-cultural understanding
