about Russian’s psychology
The key cultural concepts of Russia
In this part
we are going to talk about three key terms
Collectivism egalitarianism and display of emotions
Collectivism
Throughout its history
Russia has had a strong spirit of collectivism
which is still reflected in Russian business practices today
Russia’s harsh climatic conditions also mean
that cooperation and collaboration
rather than competition are key to survival
In the Russian culture
interests of the community always stand above personal interests
so that personal plans aims and interests are easily suppressed
Russians accept to put aside their private matters
for the sake of a common goal
It is based on an almost subconscious belief
that conditions of the social unity are more important
than personal things and thus should be worked on and treated first
and then this common well-being will start working
to the advantage of the person
Egalitarianism
An important concept related to the village environment is egalitarianism
a social philosophy that supports the elimination of inequality
and promotes the equal distribution of benefits
In Russian business terms
this amounts to an important strategy of equality
reciprocity and mutual benefit
Russians have a strong sense of status
and believe in common equality
People tend to think of deals in terms of equalization of interests
Display of Emotions
In Russia
there are good and bad ways of expressing one’s feelings
and it is considered good to pay attention to the way
others express their feelings
with more variety of contexts
This is reflected in the richness and breadth of their active
and affective verbs
Russians have plenty of language
to convey the warmth and unbridled closeness with loved ones
relatives and friends
In business
Russians are direct and don’t shy away from confrontation
In many public places they are formal
but in private they are warm and unpretentious
So much for the core cultural values of Russia
