Hello everyone I’m Lu Fengxiang from Capital Medical University
As a medical student or a medical professional
you have a lot to do
for example reading literature doing experiment
analyzing research data
Besides these there is one more thing you can never spare from it
that is wording your research results into a paper and publishing it
In some way we may say that good scientific writing
is a matter of life and death even more serious in some cases
What are the characteristics of good scientific writing
It might feature the following
Being clear
There is no unnecessary details
Being simple
The language is direct
There are no vague or complicated sentences
Being objective
The statements and ideas are evidence-based
Being accurate
Vague and ambiguous language
such as about approximately almost is avoided
Being impartial
The writing avoids making assumptions (Everyone knows that…)
and unproven statements (It can never be proved that…)
It presents how and where data were collected
and supports its conclusions with evidence
Being logically structured
The ideas and processes are expressed in a logical order
Generally there are four parts in a scientific paper
usually in the format of IMRaD or similar format
Introduction methods results and discussion
sometimes there is a paragraph of conclusion
Introduction section
discusses the problem to be solved
Describes how the research fits into the current science
and the use of primary literature
and the summarizes the current understanding of the problem
Methods section
tells how the study was done
what methods of experimentation and analysis were used
the results section
explains the important findings of the study
that help to answer the research questions
The discussion section
explains what the findings mean and the indications to the area of study
and to the related fields
It also includes limitations to the study
and discusses possible future research that is needed
