Hi, there, I am Judy; welcome to the video lesson for poster.

If there is a topic that asks you to edit into English poster, what would you do?

 

To complete this task, we first need to know the characteristics of the poster, and then we move on to the structure of the poster. Finally, an example will be shown in this lesson. 

Poster is a kind of notice with the nature of announcement, which mainly used to advertise the news about plays, movies, performances, football matches, presentations, and so on.

There are three major characteristics we mainly mention here.

1. Timeliness: This means that the news needs to be delivered to the public in a timely and effective manner.

2. Conciseness. In a poster, the language needs to be concise, easy to understand.

3. Illustration. Posters are accompanied with appealing pictures to attract people’s attention.

The structure includes title, body and signature of organizer. The title of the poster is often placed in the most prominent position at the top.

The main body needs to be written down the purpose, significance, main project, time, place, the specific methods of participation and some necessary matters of the activity in concise words.

Last one is signature of organizer. In this part, we need to write down the name of the organizer and the date of publication.

Before writing the poster, we need to take a close look at the following points:

1.Come straight to the point. The expression should be conformed to the characteristics of the poster, straightforward to the point.

2.Correctly use the person and tenses. It is necessary to use correctly different person and tense when you write a poster. Generally speaking, the third person should be used in the context, while the second person should be used in the invitation statements. When it comes to tenses, the present tense is our first choice.

3.The poster must be clearly stated the address, time and main content of the activity. So, it is a must to make it easy to understand.

4.Try to be brief and concise, which makes it easy to remember.

Let's look back to the question we mentioned before, according to the important elements of poster, we do the following three points:

First, we need a clear title -- "English Summer Camp". Then, we make it clear with our content: help to learn English, establish good interpersonal relationship, organize activities regularly, at a relatively low cost, finally, everyone is welcomed.

Third, the organizer -- school student union and the time needs to be signed at the bottom of the poster.

Here comes the example.

 

It can be seen that the poster article writes well in a correct format and standard writing. The poster covers all points in the request, including combination of long and short sentences, the use of ellipsis sentence, imperative sentence, and inverted sentence, etc.

Don’t hesitate any longer—join us…

 And what’s more, the words in the context are accurate and vivid. Such as: be devoted to, establishment, a wide variety of, membership fee, etc.
