今天我们将讨论有关电场的另一个问题。在下雨天,我们总是看到闪电。这背后的物理根源是什么?这就与我们今天要讨论的主题——电势有关。
我们先回顾一下之前讨论的势能。讨论势能之前,我们先看看保守力做功的问题。
此表达式表明,保守力所作的功等于系统势能增量的负值。因此,当我们讨论势能的时候,我们就需要确定系统。
现在我们来看电荷之间的电场力。当电场建立后,我们在某一点放置一个试验电荷。试验电荷受到的电场力由该表达式给出。
由库伦定律描述的点电荷之间的力是保守力,因此电场力是保守力。
在这个问题中,我们将电荷和场作为一个系统。
如果电荷自由移动,换句话说,电荷在电场作用下移动,电场力对电荷做功。这个功属于电荷-场系统。
这种情形类似于物体和重力场组成的系统。当一个物体从地球表面附近自由下落,重力对物体做功。这个功属于物体与地球组成的系统。
现在我们来计算电场力所作的功。我们用ds表示与路径相切的位移微元。
应用功的定义,对于电场中的点电荷q, 电场力对电荷与电场这个系统的功由该式计算。
我们知道保守力所作的功等于系统势能增量的负值。
因此,对于电荷从A点移动到B点产生的位移,系统电势能的增量等于电场力的线积分。
如果我们选择某一参考点的电势能等于零,就可以得到电场中电荷所在位置处的电势能。
例如,我们选择B点处,系统的电势能等于零,则A点处,系统的电势能Ua由此公式确定。
即电场中某点的电势能,在数值上等于把电荷从该点移到零势能点电场力所作的功。
显然,电势能与该点处的试验电荷有关。因此,电势能属于电荷-场的系统。
但是,如果我们用电势能除以试验电荷q0就可消除电荷的影响。
在这里我们引入一个只与源电荷分布有关的物理量,在电场中每一点都有一个确定的值。这个量叫做电势,用大写V表示。
电场中任意两点AB之间的电势差ΔV定义为电荷q在A、B两点间移动所引起的电势能的变化除以电荷q.
从这个公式,我们可以知道电场某一点的电势等于单位正电荷从这一点移动到零电势点电场力所作的功,可由此式表示。
我们通常选择电场中方便的位置作为电势零点。如果电场由有限带电体激发,我们会选择无穷远处为电势零点。
例如,对于点电荷产生的电场,我们会选择无穷远处作为电势零点。
现在我们回顾一下电场力和电场强度的区别。电场强度仅与源电荷有关,与试验电荷无关。
然而,电场力至少需要两个电荷:建立电场的源电荷以及作为电场探测器的试验电荷。类似地,电势差仅与源电荷和源电荷分布有关。
与试验电荷q的存在与否无关。但是,对于电势能,我们必须有两个或更多的电荷。只有当电荷相对于系统的其它部分移动,系统的电势能才会发生变化。
现在我们考虑一种情形,外力作用于电场中的电荷。
例如,保持电荷的动能不变,我将电荷从A点移动到B点。我所作的功,即系统电势能的增量可由该式计算。
所以如果我移动1库伦的电荷经过1伏特的电势差,那么我做的功就等于1焦耳。
