这一讲,我们将围绕导体在电场中的行为这一中心来探讨。
我们来考虑材料的导电性能——电导率,即材料中电子运动的能力。根据电导率,我们可以将材料分为三大类,导体,绝缘体和半导体。
导体内的电子受原子核的束缚较弱,我们称为自由电子。自由电子可以自由移动。
然而绝缘体内的电子都是束缚电子,不能自由移动。
半导体的导电性能介于导体和绝缘体之间。
大家可能知道硅。硅是最著名也是最重要的半导体材料之一,应用于集成电路。
半导体的特性是可以通过掺杂在一个很宽的范围内调控材料的电导率。
现在考虑电场中的导体,他们之间的相互作用是怎样的?
我们来看这幅图。我们将一块导体材料放入电场E中,E的方向向右。
没有外电场的时候,导体内的自由电子做不规则运动。
当施加外场后,自由电子受到向左的静电力而加速,与电场反向。这样左边的界面处聚集了电子。
由于电子减少,右边的界面处留下了正电荷。
这个过程称为静电感应。左右两侧聚集的感应电荷在导体内产生一个附加电场E’,附加电场E’ 方向与原电场E相反。
导体内的自由电子会继续向左移动,直至附加电场和原电场相互抵消。此时,导体内电场强度为零。
这一时刻我们说导体达到静电平衡,因为导体内部和表面都没有电荷的定向移动。
因此,静电平衡的第一个性质就是导体内部电场处处为零。
我们来看静电平衡的第二个性质。如果一个孤立导体带电,则电荷仅分布在导体表面。我们可以应用高斯定理证明则这个性质。
我们考虑一个任意形状的导体。在导体内取任意形状的高斯面,但这个高斯面要非常接近导体的表面。
根据第一个性质,高斯面上没一点的 电场等于零。应用高斯定理,穿过高斯面的通量为零,所以高斯面内的净电荷必为零。
既然我们的高斯面无限接近导体表面,所以净电荷一定分布在导体表面。
我们来证明第三个性质。导体表面附近的场强垂直于表面,大小等于σ/ε0.
假设电场具有平行于表面的分量,那么情况会怎样?自由电子一定会在电场力的作用下沿导体表面运动。
如果是这样,导体不会处于静电平衡,因为仍然存在电荷的定向移动。因此,电场强度一定垂直于导体表面。
如何确定电场的大小。高斯定理。如图所示, 我们选择一个很薄的圆柱面作为高斯面。圆柱面的两个底面平行于导体表面。
圆柱面的一部分在导体表面附近,其余部分在导体内部。根据以上讨论的,场强垂直于表面,穿过侧面的通量等于零。
同时,由于导体内部电场为零,所以穿过导体内部的底面通量也为零。因此,通过整个高斯面的净通量就等于穿过导体外部底面的通量。
这里通量等于EA. 其中,E为导体表面附近的电场强度, A 为圆柱的底面面积。
圆柱面包围的净电荷等于σA. 我们求解电场E,得到E等于σ除以ε0.
我们从电场角度探究了处于静电平衡的导体的性质。那么导体电势又如何呢?
考虑处于静电平衡的导体表面任意两点A和B。
沿着导体表面连接这两点之间的路径,E总是垂直于每一点的位移微元ds,因此电场的线积分必为零。
利用这个结果,我们得到A、B两点之间的电势差比为零。因为这两点是任意选取的, 所以这个结果可以应用于导体表面的任意两点。
因此说明处于静电平衡的导体表面的电势处处相等。我们再来看导体内部的电势。
导体内部电场为零,导致导体内部电势是恒定的。 因此,处于静电平衡的导体内部包括导体表面的电势是相等的。
因此,我们说,处于静电平衡的导体表面为等势面。
因为导体内部电场为零,故导体内部电势处处相等,而且等于表面电势。
大家可能已经注意到,我们讨论的导体都是实心导体。如果导体是空心的,情况又如何呢?
换句话说,如果导体内部有空腔,如图所示,情况会怎样?下一讲我们讨论空腔导体的性质。
