通过电与磁的学习,我们已经注意到E和B的对称性。通过考虑对称性,我们可以有一些新的猜想。
现在我们回顾安培环路定理。这个方程说明磁感强度沿闭合回路的积分等于μ0乘以I,其中,I为穿过以闭合回路为边界的任意面的总电流。
请注意“任意面”。我们再来回顾法拉第电磁感应定律。如此式所表达,变化的磁场可以产生电场。
考虑到E和B 的对称性,我们想知道变化的电场是否也能产生磁场。如果真是这样,安培环路定理就需要进行修订了。
现在,让我们来考虑一个正在充电的电容器,如图所示,充电时,两极板间建立了电场。
当两极板带上越来越多的电荷,电场也随时间增强,这样,充电过程给我们带来了一个随时间变化的电场。
另一方面,导线中的传导电流I同时建立了磁场。应用安培环路定理,我们选择闭合回路C作为安培环。
现在我们仔细看这幅图。如果以C为边界的面是平面S1,则穿过S1的电流等于I。于是我们写下这个方程,没有任何问题。
但是,如果我们选择S2为闭合环C为边界的面,则没有电流穿过S2, 此时电流为零。
于是,由于电流的不连续性,我们遇到了矛盾。如何解决这个矛盾?安培环路定理必须进行修订。
麦克斯韦在方程式右边的电流中,加上另一项Id,我们称为位移电流。这样问题解决了。
那么如何定义位移电流?回顾电流定义,电流定义为通过空间中某一面积的电荷对时间的变化率。
I等于dQ比dt. 如图所示,我们考虑两极板间的匀强电场,极板的面积为A。
假设任意时刻极板带电Q, Q与E之间的关系由该方程表示。通过这个方程,我们很容易计算出穿过S2的电场通量。
显然,电通量Φe等于E乘以A,等于Q除以ε0。因此dQ比dt 就等于ε0 乘以 dΦe比dt,这就是我们定义的位移电流Id.
因此,我们通过在方程右边加入这一项来修正安培环路定理。在修正后的方程中,闭合回路所围的总电流包括两项之和。
一项为传导电流I,由导线中载流子的定向移动形成,另一项为位移电流Id。这是修订后的安培环路定理,我们也称为安培-麦克斯韦环路定理。
我们可以看到穿过S1的传导电流I正好等于穿过S2的位移电流Id。于是通过引入位移电流这一项,我们解决了矛盾。
请注意,位移电流的物理实质是变化的电场。
安培-麦克斯韦定理揭示了传导电流和变化的电场都可以产生磁场。这是关键点。
现在我们有了这四个方程式,它们是所有电现象和磁现象的基础。这四个方程被称为麦克斯韦方程组。
这是电场的高斯定理。穿过任意闭合面的电场强度通量等于闭合面内的净电荷除以ε0. 高斯定理揭示了电场与电荷的关联。
这是磁场的高斯定理。至今还未发现单磁极的存在,因此方程式的右边总是零。
它表明了穿进闭合面的磁场线数目一定等于穿出闭合面的磁场线数目。我们知道磁场线是闭合回路,无头无尾。
法拉第电磁感应定律揭示了变化的磁场产生电场。感应电动势,即感应电场沿闭合回路的积分的值,等于穿过以闭合回路为边界的任意面的磁通量对时间的变化率的负值。
安培-麦克斯韦方程揭示了传导电流和变化的电场都可以产生磁场。
因此,磁场沿任意闭合回路的积分等于μ0乘以穿过闭合回路的总传导电流加上μ0乘以以该闭合回路为边界的任意面的电位移通量对时间的变化率。
麦克斯韦方程组的一个重要结果就是预言了电磁波的存在。
电磁波的速度等于光速。赫兹用实验证明了麦克斯韦的预言。
