我们来考察一下

最开始的这个多边形

我们会发现

如果它像刚才所定义的那样

拥有一只耳朵的话

那么我们就可以

沿着这个耳朵所对应的

那个三角形的那个边界这条线

把它切下来 切下来

而一旦切下来以后

我们就会发现

这个多边形就因此得到了简化

也就是说我们只要一个多边形

拥有一个耳朵

我们就可以通过这样的一个

很残忍的过程 切割

把它的耳朵切掉

从而得到一个更简单的多边形

当然这里头的简单

和我们刚才说的那个

simple polygon的simple

不是一个含义

只是说它的规模

相对于原来来说更小了

总而言之一旦有耳朵

我们就可以对它进行简化

包括接下来也是如此

我们发现这里还有一个耳朵

同样可以在这个地方

做一个切割

当把这只耳朵也切掉以后

我们会发现这个多边形

又会持续的简化下去

那么这个过程

有可能会一直持续下去

一直持续下去

直到最后本身

就变成一个三角形

最后的一只耳朵

事情看起来很简单

你这个时候可能会想起来

古希腊的神话中的那个

多头的蛇怪

海格立斯费了九牛二虎之力

才把它降服 把它杀死

那么它的特点是什么呢

大家还记得 对

它有一个很神奇的功能

每当你把它的

当然不是耳朵了

把它的脑袋切掉一个以后

它都会在原处长出两个

我们这里也一样

我们甚至可以反过来说

希望我们的多边形

能够某种意义上讲像那只海怪

就像它那样

每当我们切掉一只耳朵之后

它都能够再长出一只耳朵

至少有一只

我们还不需要有两只

至少有一只就够了

所以这样的话

整个这个过程就会持续下去

不断的切耳朵 切耳朵

不断的切割

直到切到最后只剩下一个耳朵

这个过程能不能这样下去呢

从刚才我们画的这个例子来看

是这样的

但是这个东西并不是一个证明

这只是一个举例

换句话说它有可能是个巧合

那么它究竟是巧合

还是必然呢

我们说其实这背后的原因

是必然的

因为我们又拥有

另一个前人已经准备好的定理

这个定理也就是所谓的双耳定理

Two-Ear Theorem

Meisters在四十多年前

就已经证明

任何一个简单多边形

无论是它 它 亦或是它

都存在耳朵

而且就像那只海怪一样

存在至少两只耳朵

虽然对我们的证明来说

一只就够了

那么我们又应该如何独立的得出

每一个多边形

都至少存在一个耳朵的情况呢

尤其是不要忘了

我们现在考虑的是

有可能带洞的情况

那么接下来

我们就来回答这个问题
